Why We should Use a VPN when on the Internet

We cannot go a single day without using the internet as it provides us too much value. Issue is that we have lost the ability to keep our online footprint private.

With this online footprint out in the open for everyone to see, hackers have more information than ever on you. Great example of this is how easy it is for hackers and companies to see your IP address which tell them your location…. THAT’s right! Your location!

Luckily VPNs are coming to the rescue. This security product helps to increase cyber security and keep your online information private.

How does a VPN work?

A Virtual Private Network (aka. VPN) is a simple tool that helps you remain anonymous on the internet.

When using the internet, a VPN hides your IP address. By hiding this information, hackers or companies are not able to see your physical location in the world. Put simply a VPN hides your location and identity.

You can think of a VPN as a blanket that goes on top of your internet connection. This blanket hides all the obvious information so that is typically very easy to see. This blanket makes life of a hacker difficult, especially since they typically like to go for the low hanging fruit (easy hacks)! Even if the hacker is somehow able to get under that blanket, a good VPN will have all the info encrypted, rendering it useless to a hacker.

When browning the internet you are exposed, especially when on public networks. This is why when on a public WIFI using a VPN is ideal so that other people on that network cannot snoop on you. With a VPN we can feel confident at dealing with sensitive information such as Banking, Paying Bills, looking at personal photos, etc.

What exactly does a VPN Do?

One of the biggest perks of using a VPN is your ability to keep your browsing history, location, and personal information safe from prying eyes and potential hackers. And while that’s the primary purpose of getting a VPN, there are also plenty of other things this beneficial network can do.

VPNs keep your location, browsing history, and personal information safe from hackers trying to snoop on you. Pretty awesome right?

In a nutshell a VPN:

  1. Keep your IP Address Hidden. When going online, your IP address is masked making hackers unable to trace it. Main benefit of this is keeping your physical location hidden and protecting your information when on a public network which is when you are most at risk.
  2. Hacker Protection. Hackers are often looking for low hanging fruit. This means that they are looking for the easy hack. Using a VPN is a great way to make a hacker drop you as a target and look elsewhere. This is because while browsing the web all information related to what you looked at will be encrypted.
  3. Public WIFI Protection. Using a public WIFI is much more dangerous than we think. It’s when on these public networks that we are most at risk from someone trying to spy on you. These are places like a coffee shop, university, shopping mall, etc. VPN will hide your web activities, allowing you to go on your banking or any other personal websites while on public WIFI.

Setting Up a VPN

With all the great benefits of the VPN, the big question is how hard is it to set up? Well. It’s actually really easy.

It’s as easy as searching through the ton of VPN options out there, picking the one that best fits your needs (based on number of devices, type of devices, etc) and signing up.

Finding the Best VPN for You

There are so many VPNs out there that it can be a bit intimidating which to pick. Our advice is to not only focus on price. There are many inexpensive VPN products on the market, but these are often accompanied by terrible service.

Best to look for a VPN that fits in your price range while having excellent reviews from current customers. There are great resources of people actually comparing different VPN products and giving their opinions on which is best! This is always a great place to start.
